How do I set-up my encoder to Pull or Push using files on my PC?
Many people will want to either include music files in their broadcast, or to broadcast exclusively with music files.
To do so, follow the steps to start either a Push or a Pull, but do not start encoding then follow the steps listed below to bring in files from your pc...
1. In the main screen of the encoder, you will see a button named “Properties” (directly to the left of the “start” button). Clicking on this button will open the properties windows.
You will be using the first tab, which is named “Sources”.
2. On the left of this screen you will see a list box named “Source”. This will have only one source to start, named “Live” (which is the input devices you seleceted).
Click the button in the bottom left named “Add” to add a new source. The default name for this source will be “Source 2”.
3. Look for the words “Source from:” and you will see that you have three options: “Devices”, “File” and “Both device and file”. Select “File”.
You will now be presented with a “File name” box and a “Browse” button. Use the browse button to find the files you wish to broadcast (note that you can select multiple files).
4. You will now see multiple sources in the “Source” list, one for each file you selected and the original “Live” source.
5. The sources that you have added will now act as a playlist. You can rename them to reflect the name of the music file if you wish. Use the up and down arrow buttons to change the order of the files (sources) if necessary.
You can remove the “Live” source if you do not intend to use a device (microphone or mixer).
6. For each source you will need to decide if you want it to stop after the file ends, loop the file, roll over to the next file, or roll back to the first file. Select the appropriate option from the drop down in the bottom right.
Note: Generally every file will be set to “Roll over to next source” except the last file, which is set to “Roll over to first source”.
7. Once you have your ‘playlist’ built, you are ready to start encoding.
Located on the top toolbar there should be a green button that says "Start Encoding". When you are ready to start encoding press this button and you are live.
Things to look for:
- You should see your audio bars moving up and down. If they are not working, click the mixer button below the audio bars and try selecting different channels on your soundcard.
- You want to make sure your CPU load is below 50% (you can find this indicator in the bottom right)
- You should also take note of your total bit rate
- You should see a set of 5 small green bars moving horizontally across the bottom of the encoder window.
You will now see a window on the left side of your main encoder screen named “Sources”. This window will allow you to switch between your different sources (files or device) in real-time during your broadcast. You will be using this window if you want to interrupt your playlist and use a device (to talk or take calls, etc). |
