Do I want to Push or Pull?
There are two primary options when streaming from your Windows Media Encoder - "Pull" and "Push".
At NetroMedia we endorse the "Pull" method of streaming.
It is:
- more robust - more reliable - more dependable - easier to provide service The "Push" method is not as stable. A common definition for this type of streaming is "flaky". Sometimes is works great and other times not. It will work great - and then all of sudden stop. It is also frequently plagued by a range of issues:
- drop outs - complete disconnections - hard reconnections - sometimes it just will not work for no apparent or readily diagnosable reason whatsoever.
However, there are advantages to using the “Push” method. You will be able to broadcast from different locations, or have ‘guests’ broadcast using your stream. You will also be able to broadcast without a static IP address.
However, it is a very sensitive form of streaming. And that is why we can only guarantee our services when we are streaming from a "Pull" method.
If you choose to stream by "Push" you do so at your own risk of service malfunction.
