An ASX metafile that provides information that Microsoft Windows Media Player uses to receive unicast streams, multicast streams, and other supported media from an intranet or the Internet. These files are loaded quickly by Windows Media Player and contain information for the following purposes:

Follow these instructions to create your own .asx file

1. Open notepad
2. Copy and paste this code into notepad

<ASX Version="3.0">
<ENTRY>
<REF href = "http://stream.netro.ca/yourpublishingpoint"/>
</ENTRY>
</ASX>

3. Replace the /yourpublishingpoint with your publishing point name that was given to you by Netro. Save it as yourstream.asx
4. Locate the directory you saved it in
5. Double click it to test it
6. If it works it should launch the stream into windows media player
7. Now upload yourstream.asx to a folder on your webserver
8. Point the links on your site to http://www.yoursite.com/yourfolder/yourstream.asx
9. Test the links from on your website, they should launch right into Windows Media Player.

This is also a good thing to do for tracking purposes as the .asx file will register on your web stats as a file that has been downloaded.
